The cost to bring in consultants for this was prohibitive so we are utilizing self training and working with another facility that has a two small houses in operation. I am sending four of my employees to work with theirs for a few days and gain k...

Thank you very much! This does help!
Hello, Thomas. Have you been successful in your quest for employee training materials? I'm just beginning my own search for the same. (We're building a 10 bed SH Small House slated to open in October.)

Life with a dog!

Avalon @ perrysburg just recently adopted a dog for house 3531. The cute black pup, Sassy, is spunky and loves the attention the elders provide to her. She stays out of the kitchen (thank goodness for our half (knee-height) doors) and often enjoys watching the fish swim in the tank provided by an elder.

The staff are primarily responsible for the care of the pup, but you will find the elders are responsible for the best part of parenting (fun and games, exspecially treats)!

Great Book on Elders

Hi All-
One of my staff just gave me the book entitled "Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage, and Survival" by Velma Wallis. It is a delightful story about elders. I encourage everyone to read it, as it embodies the essence of the small house concept. Thanks!
